Joules’s father, Joe Smithannounced the news of her daughter’s death in an Instagram video posted earlier this month. “Our prom queen, we love you forever 💔💔💔,” she captioned the clip, revealing that Joules died on December 9.
“As you may have noticed, we haven’t been on social media for the past few weeks. The reason is that we had to spend every second with our beautiful princess Joules, and that’s what we did,” Joe told his followers days after Joules’ death. “We did not separate from that girl. “Unfortunately, in the early hours of Monday morning, our beautiful little prom queen passed away between (my wife) Eliseo and me in bed.”
Based in the United Kingdom with her family, Joules went viral earlier this year after it was announced that she had been diagnosed with an inoperable diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG), which is a highly aggressive tumor located on the trunk of the brain.
Joe began posting videos of Joules as he continued to battle the disease over the past few months. Specifically, he posted “Dance for Joules” videos that helped raise money for a GoFundMe page established for the family last June. Almost £97,000 (more than $76,000) has been raised so far.
The website, created by a family friend, shared that Joe and Elisha took Joules to the doctor “after very brief and mild symptoms,” which led to them receiving a brain tumor diagnosis.
“Joules has been an absolute inspiration to everyone and I am so proud to be his father, as is Elisha his mother,” Joe continued in his Instagram video. “It gives us great comfort to know that she inspired and touched the lives of so many people around the world.”
He continued: “It seems crazy to say that, but we reached the whole world with ‘Dancing for Joules’ and that’s thanks to you for sharing these videos and helping us raise awareness. This is something we promise we will continue.”

“I know she will continue dancing,” he added. “I just want to take a minute to thank every single person who has donated, who has been there for our journey, charity events, everything that is happening right now and ‘Dancing for Joules.’ If you took the time to dance, thank you very much.”
