The United States Senate on Friday night approved a bill to avoid a government closure after a handful of Democrats left their resistance to the measure backed by Republicans.
The Senate voted 54-46 to continue financing the government, only a few hours before a closure had begun.
Republican senator Rand Paul voted against the measure, while Democrat Jeanne Shaheen and Independiente Angus King, who hunt with the Democrats, helped approve it.
