Lynn Stewart loses a long battle with cancer
The death of Lynn Stewart came to an end a long and private fight against cancer that began with its diagnosis in 2013. The disease had a deep impact on Alec’s career, culminating in his decision to resign as director of Cricket of Surrey in March 2024 to devote more time to his wife and family.
In a sincere statement at that time, Alec said, “I want to give her my family, more than my time than this work allows.” The decision reflected his unwavering commitment to his family despite an immensely successful period that leads to Surrey. During his term, the club flourished, winning four county championship titles, including a dominant streak of three in a row from 2022 to 2024.
Surrey cries the disappearance of Lynn Stewart
In the Kia Oval on Monday, mood was bleak since the Cricket community stopped to reflect. The flags on the pavilion of the members of Micky Stewart, appointed in honor of the father of Alec, another legend of the club, went down to half a state, and the players observed a moment of silence before the game resumed.
Club president, Oli Slipper, offered public condolences, declaring, “We ask that people respect their privacy during this difficult time. The whole Surrey family is with Alec and their children in their pain.” The deep links of the Stewart family with the club made the moment especially significant for players, personal and fans equally.
Lynn’s disease remained largely private over the years, and Alec only spoke publicly in the context of his resignation. Married for decades, the couple is survived by their two children, Andrew and Emily, who have kept them out of the public eye while the family sailed through Lynn’s health trip with a quiet dignity.

Although Surrey’s match against Hampshire ended in a hard draw, with the resilient century of Nick Gubbins denying the local part a victory, the result was secondary. Throughout the ground, the approach firmly remained to remember Lynn and support the Stewarts.
