Former US President Bill Clinton has been admitted to a hospital after developing a fever, according to a spokesperson for the Democrat.
“He remains in good spirits and is deeply grateful for the excellent care he is receiving,” Ángel Ureña wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
He said Clinton was admitted to Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, D.C. on Monday afternoon for testing and observation after developing a fever.
Ureña’s statement did not provide further details on the Arkansas Democrat’s condition, although US media reports indicate that Clinton is expected to recover.
A source close to Clinton said NBC News that the situation “is not urgent” and the former president would be “fine.” The news network reported that Clinton was awake and alert.
This is the latest health problem for the 42nd president of the United States, who occupied the White House from 1993 to 2001.
Clinton, 78, was last hospitalized for six days in 2021 in California after developing a blood infection. He is also known to have suffered heart problems in the past.
In 2004, at the age of 58, he underwent quadruple bypass surgery after doctors found signs of extensive heart disease, and ten years later they opened a blocked artery after complaining of chest pains.
Shortly after his second surgery, the former president, known for his love of fatty foods, became a vegan. He told Politico in 2016: “Maybe I wouldn’t be here if I hadn’t gone vegan. It’s great.”
Clinton was active in the presidential campaign this year, as she traveled the country to boost Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential bid.
Last month he published his latest book, Citizen: My Life After the White House.
