The promoter Eddie Hearn says that he will meet with Golden Boy during the week Times Square to negotiate a fight between Shakur Stevenson and William Zepeda. Hearn states that he is the “Fight” For Shakur (23-0, 11 kos), and that the WBC ordered him to defend his light weight title.
Zepeda’s Leverage
Shakur will have to be willing to deliver part of his bag for him to get Zepeda (33-0, 27 kos) to accept to carry the fight. It may not be a significant increase in payment for him since the last two fights against Tevin Farmer. Why would I want to challenge Shakur if it is not going to be for more money than he has been receiving?
It is a difficult situation for Stevenson and Hearn because they need Zepeda more than he needs. It could be said that it is more popular and has the following due to its exciting style of struggle. The only thing Shakur has for him is his lightweight weight title, which means nothing.
