Former India opener akash chopra spoke about the controversy surrounding the off-roader Ravindra JadejaThe recent press conference before the Boxing Day test in Melbourne. Chopra even stated that the problem lies with journalists if they do not understand Hindi.
The Indian team is currently in Melbourne preparing for the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The Men in Blue are training hard in the nets as the players look to give their all in the remaining matches.
While speaking in a video on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra spoke about the controversy surrounding Ravindra Jadeja’s press conference. Firstly, he made it clear that he is ‘Ravindra Jadeja’ and not ‘Ravi Jadeja’. Western media journalists often call the all-rounder by the wrong name – Ravi Jadeja.
“The latest story is about the pitch fix. It has become a major point of discussion. There was also talk about the press conference. First of all, his name is Ravindra Jadeja. It is not Ravi. There was a lot of discussion about why who answered only in Hindi and did not answer questions in English,” Chopra said.
The former Indian cricketer further defended Ravindra Jadeja saying that he is there to play cricket and not to give interviews. He stated that it is journalists’ problem if they do not understand Hindi and that the issue has been overly elaborated by the Australian media.
“It’s your problem if you don’t understand the language he spoke. He is not required to answer questions in English. Believe me, he is not. He is there to play and not to give interviews. If he arrived late that day “I don’t know, but there a lot of commotion is created,” he considered.
What was the controversy?
Recently, Ravindra Jadeja held a press conference at the MCG where he answered questions from Indian journalists in Hindi, but refused to answer questions from Australian media. He has since been criticized for disrespecting journalists at a press conference.
Later, it was discovered that the Indian team manager did not allow Ravindra Jadeja to answer questions from Australian journalists because the all-rounder was late to catch the team bus. A match that was supposed to be played later between Indian and Australian media was also canceled after this incident.
Ravindra Jadeja did not play the first two Tests, but he did play the Gabba Test. He was not impressive with the ball but scored an excellent 77 with the bat that helped India avoid the follow-on.
Aakash Chopra criticizes Australia for fixing the tone
Aakash Chopra also shared his opinion on the Australian release fixing controversy. Recently, the Indian team was given the used Big Bash pitches to practice instead of the new pitch, which was given to the Australian team.
Chopra was highly critical of Australia’s approach and asked them to provide adequate facilities to ensure a level playing field. He even stated that India doesn’t do such things when Australia comes to play matches.
“We saw the pictures. Australia is getting pitches as they should be for practice. We are getting used to and getting tired of pitches where the bounce is uneven. Our philosophy is Atithi Devo Bhava. When you come to our place, we even give net bowlers, and you are fixing the tone,” said Aakash Chopra.
“You are not doing the right thing. Providing quality practice facilities to both the teams. “Don’t treat India like a visitor who doesn’t deserve good practices and training facilities,” the former India opener added.
He series It is currently at level 1-1 and there are two more tests to play. The Boxing Day Test will be played from December 26 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The fifth test will be played in Sydney.
